Melbourne’s Commemoration March is designed to enable those who have served Australia and its allies to re-from the ranks of their units and March. Descendants of veterans are encouraged and welcome to participate in the ANZAC Day March.
The March is also an opportunity for the general public to honour and recognise those who have served and who currently serve in defence of Australia or its interests.
RACV vehicles carrying the first veterans proceed down the March route at 8:30am, and the remainder of the March commences at 9am. The March is normally complete by about midday.
Viewing the March
Everyone is encouraged to come along and support our veterans. You can view the March from right along the March route from Swanston Street (near Fed Square) right down St Kilda Road to the Shrine of Remembrance.
If you are unable to make it on the day, you can also view the March via livestream on our website or via the RSL Victoria Facebook page.
RACV Vehicles for Veterans
For over a century the RACV have been helping to transport veterans. On ANZAC Day a service will be offered to veterans who need help getting to and from the Commemoration March.
This service takes three forms:
- Transportation from home address, along the March route to watch from the RACV marquee, and back home at the conclusion of the March.
- Transportation from home address, travelling in the March with a unit, and then home.
- Transportation in the March only, no transportation to or from home address.
