Halfway between Melbourne and Adelaide, in the Wimmera, is Nhill. A country town with a lovely park and cenotaph at its centre.
Every ANZAC Day and Remembrance Day the town turns red, in a fitting tribute to those who served and continue to serve today.
In the lead up to Remembrance Day 2021, visitors to Nhill will find Goldsworthy Park in the town’s centre covered in over 25,000 poppies, decorating palm trees and the cenotaph. A beautiful mannequin wearing a gown covered in more than 2000 poppies has also been installed at the Nhill Free Press & Kaniva Times office, located in the Nhill main street: 27 Victoria St, Nhill VIC 3418.
Pamela Deckert and Rosie Clark of the Nhill RSL Sub-Branch organise the installation of the poppies around the town each year. This is a tradition that began in 2019 when the 5000 poppy project inspired the two women.
Locals and visitors to Nhill can catch the poppy installations this November.
