As part of National Volunteer Week (NVW), RSL Sub-Branches around the state have taken time to say ‘Thank you’ to their many hundreds of volunteers.

The RSL’s volunteer network, comprised of veterans, families of veterans and members of the wider community, allows the organisation to turn its mission into reality. As part of NVW, morning teas, lunches and other events have been held across the state in their honour.

RSL’s skilled volunteers tackle diverse roles across the organisation, including veteran support, fundraising, administration and even Sub-Branch presidency. Their work enables the RSL to continue its vital support for those who need it most.

Kerry Burns is the Manager of Volunteer and Social Engagement at RSL Victoria.

“Volunteering can be so powerful. It has the potential to change the lives of both the volunteer and those they help. It also offers opportunities for social, economic, and cultural inclusion, as well as improving one’s health and wellbeing.”

The theme of this year’s NVW is “Change Makers” – someone who takes action to make the world a better place.

Kerry says RSL Victoria’s volunteers are exactly that.

“These are people who are driven to contribute, passionate and give their time and energy to make a difference.”

State President, Dr Robert Webster OAM, says the organisation is grateful for the immense efforts of all its volunteers.

“Thank you to all our Volunteers for choosing the RSL in Victoria as your place to volunteer, and for doing what you do. You are very much the lifeblood of the RSL.”
